My calculated max heart rate, based the formula of 211 - (age/2) is 195. Thus making my redline zone (90%-100%) 175 to 195 bpm. When I work out, I wear a heart rate monitor, and for typical workouts, my average heart rate usually reads about 175. I am able to maintain my heart rate at around 170-180 for extended periods. 170-180 FEELS more like the aerobic zone, or MAYBE the low end of anaerobic zone, but definitely NOT the redline zone. One should only be able to maintain the redline zone for short bursts - but I am maintaining an HR of 170-180 for an hour, sometimes more. When I say it FEELS like the aerobic zone, I mean that I can carry on a conversation with minimal difficulty. When I am in my calculated aerobic zone (136-156 bpm) I feel like I am barely working. When I am sprinting for short bursts, my heart rate often reaches 210 with no pain.So should I go by the chart? Or listen to my body? And why are the numbers so far off?my resting HR is about 73

those formulas are just approximations and do not apply to everybody. You have a higher than average max. hr for your age so your training zone is higher. Wear your HR monitor and run hard up hill for 3 minutes, rest 2 minutes between each hill, and repeat 3 times in a row. Get your HR after you finish the last one (you should be exhausted) and use that as your max instead of 195.

This is a question for a professional. If you do not have a personal physician than I would check it out on WEB MD, They have a ton of information reviewed by Doctors. You only have one heart, check it out.Good luckHealthtalk http://celebrateyour health.blogspot.com/

What's your resting heart rate? If it's high, then your aerobic zone will be higher. In high school I was insanely out of shape and my resting heart rate was about 100bpm (no joke!) and I could hit 200 easily doing aerobics. If you're out of shape, then your resting heart rate and aerobic zone will both get lower as you get fitter.
