I have been working out at the gym faithfully for six weeks now. I am there five to six days a week. I do a half hour of cardio (run on the treadmill or do the cross trainer) then a half hour of weight training. I meet with a personal trainer three times a week. I also keep an online food journal to calculate everything I eat. Nothing has happened to my body. I have lost no weight, my clothes fit the same and I've started retaining water really badly in my legs and feet (to the point where I've started taking water pills because I can't fit into my shoes). I'd like to lose 20 lbs. Nothing drastic and I'm trying to do it the "healthy way" without resorting to those tempting diet supplements. I'm really discouraged. I pass up the yummiest food all the time (pizza, burgers, fries) for healthy food and when I get on the scale...nothing. When I put my "fat clothes on"...nothing. It's really frustrating. Everyone keeps saying muscle weighs more than fat. I want another answer.

Just keep trying keep going and don't give up. you may need to think about giving your body more time to rest when you work out. Try slowing down to four days a week you may just be over doing it for your body type. Keep eating right and I am sure you will see results soon.

I am having the same problem. You need to cut out all sugar and anything white. That includes cereal, white bread, white rice and any cookies or candy. My problem is that i work out 6 days a week, run & walk 2 miles a day, But I have a sweet tooth and sugar is my problem. Try eliminating the white foods from your diet and see if that doesn't help. Good luck

Are you male or female, and what is your age? I ask because our metabolism slows as we age and we women develop hormonal issues, which really put the kabosh on weight loss. One suggestion is to see your doctor to rule out any health issues. Second, drink more water... it helps to flush out the fluids that seem to build up and it raises metabolism. If you can, try ten 8-oz. glasses a day. Third, see a nutritionist. You may be eating healthfully, but not getting enough calories. The body tends to horde fat if it thinks you are starving, even just a little. You need the proper balance of proteins, carbs, and fats. Hey, much luck to you.... I know how hard it is! Smile

I dont know how much you weigh right now but it is going to take some time to lose 20lbs. What are you getting your hear rate up to when your on the tread mill? How many times a day are you eating? Are you drinking enough water? Stay away from alot of salt, that will make you retain water. I work out 6 days a week as well at about the same routine as you. I weigh about 185-190lbs and am 5' 9''. I keep my heart rate at about 160 - 190 and get on the elliptical for atleast 2-3 miles a day. (monday - friday) and then the tread mill for 2 miles, elliptical for 2 miles and then the bike machines for 10-12 miles on saturdays. That is helping me out. Hope this helps. Good luck

After my daughter was born, in nine years I gained 50 pounds -- that works out to about a half a pound a month. When I started working out last August, it was weeks before I felt even in shape enough to really exert myself. I started following the advice of Drs. Oz and Roizen of RealAge.com. It took a couple of months for me to lose the first pound. My focus was, and remains, on being fit, rather than losing weight. I knew not to gear myself up for immediate results. I'm now down somewhere between 10 and 15 pounds, and I love feeling better, looking better, and all the other corny things people say. I love the doctors' advice about buying food: if the top 5 ingredients contain these 4 things, you shouldn't be buying it -- the word "enriched," saturated fats (from 4-legged animals), hydrogenated fats, and sugars (corn syrups, and all the other types of sugars). I still have plenty of vices, but I significantly changed how I eat (whole family did), and it has made a big difference. Keep the faith, and keep doing what you're doing at the gym.
