I have been cycling on hilly roads for ages and I would love to find some real flat routes so I can see how fast I can go and also work out all the gears on my new racing cycle. I long to just pedal on the flat for a few miles. I know the fens are the best places but I really wanted local. Can anyone help please? Thankyou.

I don't know how local it is to you, but it's very flat in the Vale of Belvoir. The road from Harby to Bottesford is very level until you reach the Grantham canal.

Rutland Water has already been mentioned. You might also try Gratham Water (A14 near Cambs) or Pitsford (Northants).Pitsford is probably the flatest, althouth Rutland is quite flat. You might also consider going to this website:www.wellandvalleywheelers.comI think that is the club address, but if not put Welland Valley Wheelers into google. This is primarily a Liecestershire based road club located in Harborough. They should have a lot of local info. My own club is into mountainbikes, therefore not much use to your question. You might also buy an ordinance survey map of the area. This will give you contour lines and cycle routes (Bridalways, towpaths, etc.).By the way, have you considered the Grand Union canal. Not ideal for road bikes, but it is long and flat.Luck
