i bought a polar f6 two weeks ago and the battery on it has died. i use it 4x a week and never use the backlight. i just found out that you need to send it to a service center for the battery to be replaced. the closest one is in dallas(i'm in austin)i'm going to return it and get my money back and i wanted to buy another watch but i want my next HRM watch to be easily maintained. does any one know a brand that the battery can be replaced by the consumer? and where can i find this HRM watch?

I too have a Polar, and also a Mio. The Mio is a cheststrapless HRM that detects your HR by placing your index finger and pointer finger on two sensors on the faceplate, while the backing of the watch grounds the unit, completing the electrical current in order to detect HR. While the HR count is accurate, the caloric readout leaves a bit to be desired. It'll average a reading over the time you've spent exercising, giving you a rough estimate of calories burned. So, if you're changing intensity levels, say running then walking, you'll need to monitor your heart rate constantly, by pressing the two sensors, if you don't and only take your HR while running, it'll average all time spent running the chronometer as if you were jogging. Still, as a HRM, it can be beat... as a caloric counter... there's a bit more development needed I think. It's cheap though, 40 bucks CND delivered to your door.
