As of last week, i began to take cycling classes at 24 hour fitness for three days a week. I've really been enjoying them but ive had a few questions i cant seem to get answered! First off, how much more effective is cycling over running? ( as in is the calorie burn greater?)Will my leg muscles bulk up alot if i continue at this rate? (this is something im trying to AVOID ) and Im trying to shed pounds and inches in my inner thighs, butt and stomach and hip area so is this a good workout for this or will i just end up bulking up?Thanks for the help and i would appreciate honest, helpful answers!

What is great about biking is not only is it more fun than running, it doesn't seem as hard. Although, I think if you were running you would burn more calories, but not by much. Next, what's nice about biking is it's cardio which will help you lose weight and you legs are doing a "weight lifting" technique. You will NOT bulk up. However, you will loose a lof of weight from biking and cycling, and your thighs butt and stomach will thin up, especially your thighs and butt. The next thing is because it has some weight resistance to it you will tone muscle but the weight isn't an extreme about so your muscles wont bulk up, they will just become stronger, more defined muscles

In my opinion-which could be wrong-I think running burns more calories than cycling. Cycling targets mostly the thighs and calfs. It strengthens those muscles. If you want an overall cardiovascular calorie-burnin workout I'd say the running would be more efficient in working your entire body. You said that you wanted to lose inches and pounds from different parts of your body and running will do just that. Cycling is more for muscular endurance than cardio. But then again, I may be wrong. With cycling I do think it will cause your legs to become a lot more muscular but if you're only doing it three times a week then I don't think you're gonna get super big legs.
