Why does my PS memory card keep going back into "unformatted mode?"?

I have a PS memory card (SCPH-1020, and bought brand new from) that came unformatted. I couldn't format it thru my PS2 (Model SCPH-77000, the silver slimline). However, when I began playing thru a PS game (Megaman x4), the game formatted the memory card, thus I earned the ability to save ps games on the PS memory card. The strange thing is that when I tried to save Metal Gear Solid (from the essential collection) data on my card, a message would pop up saying "memory card unformatted." And wouldn't save. THEN, when I access my PS memory card via my memory card manager, a message says "unformatted, format now?" I click yes, and it doesn't format, but will thru a PS game. It's a cycle i go thru, and I notice that I can only handle one PS save at a time while playing thru ps games [therefore I regularly back the PS saves on my PS2 card ]. Do you have any idea why my PS memcard keeps resetting back to "unformatted mode?" O yea, friendly reminder, my mem card is a Sony Brand!
