I decided to wear my polar heart rate monitor for 24 hours to see how many calories I burn a day; after the 24 hours, it said that I burned 1200 calories..is my metabolism slow? I decided to to a couple more times, just to see if it was consistent, and it averaged out to be the same. I'm 18 years old, 5'5, and 115 pounds; does this mean that I need to eat 1200 a day to maintain my weight?

If you didn't do any extra activities or work out then 1200 sounds normal.

Yes, and if your body starts to add weight, start by doing a heavy leg work routine to start metabolism stimulation. 70 to 75% of your metabolism rate is governed by your leg work with squats and lunges.Always use proper form too.

i can't comment on your metabolism becoz i don't knowbut one thing i have to say is that1200 calories is only your basic consumptionso it means, u will burn 1200 calories a day even if u r laying on bed all dayi guess u would burn about 2000 calories tatally a day

well the result of the monitor cannot really represent the true rhythm of heart.were your activities 'low energy' the days you tried it,weren't you eating anything?1200 calories might be your BASIC metabolism, but sounds strange to be your metabolism(basic metabolism+chemical reactions for mental and physical work).i will take a heart rate monitor too to check this.do you feel energetic?1200 calories sounds weird ,but possible if you feel weak.
