I run a few miles 3 days a week and everytime i run my shins begin to hurt very bad! My breathing is fine and my muscles do not even ache but the pain from my shins is almost unbearable! Is this shin splints? It doesnt hurt after i stop for a while though. How do i prevent this? Better shoes? Softer running surface? They occur after running for about 8 minutes and seem to get worse the further i go.EDIT::: What is the proper method for running (toe/heel placement) Roll step?

Oh they hurt soooooooo bad! I feel your pain! Rub a stick or smooth surface type bar thing up and down your shins surprisingly this feels amazing when they hurt, other than that i believe there is not much else you can do as it is caused by running on hard surfaces... Its the impact of your feet hitting pavement. Try running on sand, and try a calcium dose (dont over do the calcium check the recommended dose to see if you are lacking)

I think from the pain you are getting and my experience it sounds like shin splints. Shin splints are hard to fix really. they work different with different people. it is a stress fracture than can take from 2 weeks to unltd time to reccover. For starters i would advise you see a footwear specialist to get some decent running shoes that support as over pronation can cause shin splints. If you are still finding you get some pain i suggest seing a physio/podiatrist. Hope that helped.

well they only way to really cure shin splints is to stay off your feet and let them healthey usually happen when someone ups their intensity of running or they running form is improperit can also be the arch of your foot or the type of shoe causing the problemif you still have to run just massage your leg with ice every night to reduce inflammationits best to freeze like a hard dixie cup full of water and rub the ice against the paingood luck shin splints SUCK
