Hey I have a question... Would riding on the road, on a mountain bike, wearing mountain biking shoes, jersey and shorts look rediculous? Haha, its just that, I ride a mountain bike, and I think if I were to wear road cycling clothes, it wouldn't really look very uniform... And I think riding in mountain biking gear on the road would look rediculous, but I want to know what you guys think. I don't ride a road bike because any little bump or rock you ride on feels like you just hit a huge speed bump....Haha... I'd love to get a full carbon road bike... But maybe after I finish college and have a good job.... Those road bikes are way too expensive. =\

Just get a road bike with carbon forks and carbon seat post and it's really not that uncomfortable. The advantages definitely outweigh the negatives

mountain bike and touring cyclist wear the same clothes in many cases. to me it doesnt matter, but there are some roadies that are a bit stuck up that may treat you different. i always said it doesnt matter what he rides or how he dresses when he or she is kicking your behind.

OK, I'm not a pro, but I've been an amateur (mtb, road, cyclocross) for 20 years. There's nothing wrong with wearing 'road' clothes on an MTB. Since you framed your question with regards to pro cyclists, you should note that the only pros that do _not_ wear lycra are the downhillers. All cross country racers dress in lycra: http://www.cyclingnews.com/mtbphotos.php?id=/photos/2008/apr08/mtbXC2w orldcup08/mtbXC2worldcup084/men201But really, you should dress in whatever you're comfortable in. I personally can't stand the baggy MTB look, but I know plenty of guys that feel the opposite.

As long as you don't wear a full DH apparel (full face helmet, pressure suit and stuff) it doesn't matter how you look on the road.
