| My best friend gain a lot of weight in the past 3 years. She is now roughly 260 pounds. I'm going to join a gym with her, and we plan on going 4 times a week and exercising 4 hours every time we go. We also plan on spending 30 minutes in the sauna. So her goal is to lose 30-40 pounds by the end of may, but I keep telling her it is not realistic, but I want to get some other opinions. At her current weight of 260ish, will she able to lose 30-40 pounds by the end of may, sinces she is obese/overweight, for her height og 5'6?All answers welcome! |

| dont put herself esteem down. encourage her 2 change her goals, but dont use the word realisitc. tell her that any thing is possible, but it takes time. make sure she isnt overexercising (this could prevent weight loss) |

hmm if we are going to talk about being realistic.. your whole "4 hours every time we go to the gym" idea is just that... an IDEA. Your body can not handle going from 0 to 4 hours in the gym. You both will have to work up to that. I do about 1 and a half hours a day of working out but I started with 15 mins. Second, yea its possible to lose that much if she's been consuming 4000 calories a day for the past 3 years. Some people who are overweight are that way because they consume too little and their body goes into starvation mode, and then they start binging and eat a ton but their metabolism already slowed down, then they feel bad and start eating VERY little again.. see how that would just keep you gaining weight? Thats the effect of yo yo dieting. So if she's been consuming a ton of calories then by decreasing those calories to where they should be (around 1500 - 2000) calories a day at the very least (the bigger you are the more calories your body requires to function because of the added weight, as you lose weight that caloric requirement decreases) ... so with decreasing the calories and couple that with cardio and weight training... yea she will prob lose a lot of weight the first month but then it will slow down. Good luck you two. |
