She wants to gain by her own! But how much calories does she need to gain as an anorexic? She insists she only needs about 1,000 calories just to survive because her weight is so low, but can her body even function properly to digest everything she eats at this point? What would the doctors do besides feeding her through a tube? What should she really be eating? How much is enough? This is a second posting...and no, this is NOT a hoax, she is really 57 lbs and very much alive. Anyone with professional experience and medical knowledge is most welcome, and especially former eating disorder patients who experienced the recovery process and can share some meal plans? PLease refrain from any nasty comments...Any help will be appreciated!!!!

She NEEDS to get help from a doctor and a nutionist. 1000 cal might be fine to start out on because shes starved herself but after she gains weight she should up her cal intake. By the end she should be eating 1500 at least. Because shes so underweight, she might have to start out getting fed with a tube. Her body wont be able to digest the food the right way and will make her sick.

This person needs to be in a clinical setting and getting psychiatric help and nutritional guidance. Sorry, but if she could "do it herself" she wouldn't have gotten in the condition she's currently in.

I am anorexic and she needs professional help. It has helped me, even though I still struggle with it everyday, I am a lot better than I was.

Drinking a boost or ensure with the meals that she is eating will help. Each boost has about 360 cal. and will give her the nutrients she's lacking.

i have never had an eating disorder, but i have struggled with illnesses that have caused me to not eat for several days. 57 lbs is really scary and she should be seeing a doctor, but if she is so against it than she'd rather take the risk of dying here is what i'd suggest:make sure she's sipping water all day.when she first eats have her eat something like a half of a bannana or something easy on the stomach and only a little bit of it. then (as soon as possible after, but less than 4 hours later) do the same. continue to do this for 2-3 days.then have her eat pasta, a small portion and continue to do this. within a few days her stomach will be okay. 1,000 calories is enough at first, but make sure she knows that its okay to eat up to 2,500 or even more a day until she gains atleast 30 pounds afterwhich it would be okay for her to start eating around 1800 a day.
