I'm 20 and from a family of obese overeaters at least on my fathers side. Until last year I was thin but had a rough patch last yr & gained weight. I have no desire to join the rest of my family even though they seem unsually happy about my weight gain. My sisters are all obese and were thrilled to see me gain weight. They were all fat by age 11 but I have always and still am considerably smaller than them. I know its not genetic as we all have different mothers, mine being an ex-model. Also I have a pretty small frame (my index finger and thumb overlap a little when wrapped around the opposite wrist) compared to them being big boned. I am 5'2 and about 145lbs. I need a practical weight loss regimen to get back down to my regular 120lbs. I admit I'm a bit sedentary because of studying late nights. Can someone suggest a plan? I'm not looking for a quick way to lose weight but a healthy one.

Exersise lots, but don't over do it..just moving(doesn't need to be strenuous) burns calories. To loose weight you must burn more calories than you take in. My tips for loosing weightDon't sit down at your pc or watch tv for more than 30 mins without getting up for 10-15 and moving about. just walk around...do some jumping jacks, stretch.Drink 5-10 8 ounce glasses of ICE water. The hitch there is the ice, in an 8 ounce glass of ICE WATER your body must burn 17.5 calories to warm the water to your body tempature. Try to drink Ice water in place of other drinks or luke warm water.Lots of waterStretch in the morning and evening before you go to bedGet 60 minutes of exersise(doesn't need to be strenuious) each dayDo NOT eat these foods or drinksTry to stay as far away from bread as possible..a little is okayEnergy drinksDrinks with sugar in themRegular sodasweets(ice cream, candy, cake,)A portion of food is the size of YOUR fist. make a fist and mesure that amount of the food your eating. Thats a good portion size for you.Don't eat after 7 pm( If you have to try not to make it alot)And most of all just have fun. Whenever your moving. no matter how small or short you are burning calories :DDon't eat after 7 pm Eat HIGH CARB foodsYup most people lsoe 3lbs the first week of dieting and 2lbs a week from there on :)Drink STRICTLY WATERFree foods: Black coffeLettuceSaladcelery200-300 cals for breakfast 60 cal snack 300-400 cals for lunch60 cal snack 400-500 cals for dinner Loads of water, I mean a lot!!! and spike it with some citrus fruit as this has an enzyme in it that quite literrally eats fat!

I hate to seem like I'm spamming, and hate to seem cranky about it, but people refuse to understand this.I'm sorry if this upsets people but the answer to their problems is so simple! i know it's tough to have willpower and stick with this, and I'm no medical professional, but I know the true secret to lose weight and keep it off. It has been around for thousands of years, when mankind existed before the industrial revolution. You want to know the secret? It's the easiest remedy, requires no guesswork, and can take awhile, but is worth the benefits? Suspense gotcha yet?You really want to know?Promise you won't get mad.Did you promise?OK, the real true way the body was created, to maintain your weight true to your height and build is to....1) Eat as much unprocessed organic foods as possible. Lay off the prepackaged, starchy, homogenised, refined foods. Fresh fruit, fresh veggies, whole grains, and get as much protein from vegetation. ANYTHING YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO RAISE, GROW OR COOK FROM SCRATCH!! If you must eat meat, eat organic. Or buy from kosher markets. Drink bottled spring water. Fiji water is the best. It might seem more expensive at first, but think of it this way. Would you rather pay into aggravating medical bills stemming from your unhealthy lifestyle, or spend a little more serving you and your family healthy foods your bodies intended to have since the creation of mankind?Think about it. There wasn't a whole lot of overweight couch potato settlers. They worked for what they had. Physical labor, for meagre earnings, meagre food rationed. yet, they survived. They were their average weight. There was not diabetes, or any strange diseases we see today. Don't believe me? Google it. Which brings me to number 2...2) Exercise as much as you can. Even if it means short simple walks daily at first. Before all the modernisation of the world we walked, lifted, stooped, knelt, and occasionally ran. The ratio to exercise is burn off at least over half of what you consumed the previous day. Normal brain functions, stress, everyday activities besides exercise burns off the rest, and doesn't deposit as fat.If you aren't healthy enough for physical activities, I urge you to cut out the prepackaged foods, and corn syrup laden drinks, and eat more natural foods. I guarantee you will lose weight from just doing that, than relying on herbal teas or any nutritional supplements you found that say "AS SEEN ON TV". Marketing gimmicks won't make you be healthy. ITS ONLY UP TO YOU!Be well

I am not a registered dietitian (RD), but I am working towards the ADA certification. Therefore, I do have a decent academic background in dietetics. I do not know much about you/your lifestyle. Here is some general information/suggestions you may find interesting/helpful.Slimfast is not a proper meal replacement. Food often contains antioxidants and micronutrients that supplements lack. For a quick one week, gotta lose 3 pounds to fit in last years bikini, it should be ok, but not as an ongoing thing. Rapid weight loss (more than 2 pounds a week) is not good for the body and is normally put back on. I don't know much about you personally, so all of the following may not apply.Instead of temporarily changing your diet, I suggest you attempt to change your life style. How much physical activity do you do? Increase it in any way you can. Walk, play sports, or even cleaning can get you moving. To straighten the heart, you would need to partake in continuous strenuous movement. However, moderate activity/any movement will still burn calories. Park as far from the door as you can and walk across the lot. Walk everywhere you can. Walking a mile (about 15-20 minutes) will burn about 100 calories. Try purchasing some 5-10 pound (or other comfortable weight) dumbbells. While sitting in traffic, watching TV, or any other time you would sit idle do some curls. Little stuff will add up.Do you skip meals? The body works best when meals are not skipped. The body compensates for the lack of nutrients by slowing down. What do you eat? Most processed foods are high in at least one of the following: fat, salt (sodium), or carbs. To much of any is bad. I would stay away from them. Do this by looking for foods with the fewest listed ingredients and reading labels. If you drink pop consider this: A can of pop has about 150 calories, that is almost two extra day's worth of energy over the week. Compare that to 0 calories per serving of diet cola/water. Assuming your weight has been staying fairly constant, by switching beverages you could lose over a pound per week (1.2 pounds per week = 150 calories per can * 4 cans per day * 7 days / 3500 Calories per pound).Americans also consume large amounts of red meat/cholesterol, reduce the amount you eat (its also high in fat). Try eating more beans and legumes. Eat a peanut butter and jelly on wholewheat sandwich with a glass of skim milk. You get complete protein and some fiber. Eating fish provides some healthy fatty acids with the protein. Eat a colorful array of fresh fruits and veggies. They are the best, as some preservation methods destroy nutrients. They are also cheaper and more filling than a bag of chips from a vending machine. Finally, reduce portion sizes. Restaurants often serve a few meals worth of food. A proper serving of meat is about the size of a deck of cards. Try asking for aI suggest tracking what and how much you eat now. http://www.mypyramid.gov/ will be a useful resource. You can review your diet and read suggestions on how to improve it. There is plenty of information out on the web. However, the use of a dietitian may be helpful. Nutritionists may be helpful, but rarely have the same background or schooling. Try talking to your doctor and/or insurance company to see if they can offer assistance.Good luck,Mike

What finally worked for me? I figured out how many calories I'm supposed to have for the day. Then I actually figured out how many calories were in everything I ate and drank for the day and stayed close to my number. It's kind of scary when you actually figure out how many calories are in some of the foods you have been eating. I agree with the others that posted. Natural foods are best. And cook at home when you can! Most restaurant food is horrible. I was totally shocked when I looked up some of my favorites. Most restaurants have nutrition info online. calorieking.com has pretty much every food in their database. You can also calculate how many calories you should have for the day there, if you want to loose weight than eat a little bit less. And make sure you are being realistic about the portion size!!!! Many times we eat much more than a serving size.

You have to come up with some type of a reward system, this will help keep you motivated. One of the best things to do is make a contingency contract. Stating what you want to do, who will help you do it, and what do you get for doing it. Then also try to find a well balance diet program. My friend did this one diet program where the average weight lose is 7 pounds in 9 days. It might be the thing you are looking for, I know it's well balanced. If you want e-mail me and I can tell you more about either of these.

Hi there,I think if you exercised 45 minutes a day doing exercise you like, eat three balanced meals, you should be able to get the weight off no problem!I actually do yoga in the morning--somehow I manage to fit this in my schedule!Don't drink fruit juices or soda. Drink mostly water.Treat yourself on the weekends, a drink or two, eating out at a restaurant (don't go crazy). You'll be where you want to be weight wise in no time!Oh, I have a picture of a Japanese sumo wrestler hanging on my fridge. It keeps me from going back for seconds! Please don't obsess about your weight too much, forgive your family for being fat for we have our own paths to take. The nicest, funniest people I know are all fat. I just adore them.Good luck to you, I'll think of you often.
