I am obese (256 pounds) and also just joined a gym. I am going to meet w/ a trainer and they will tell me how much cardio to do. I can get one of these for $30, is it worth the investment for someone like me? I plan on going about 4 X a week to the gym ,

You should talk to your doctor about this because you might have health problems. Before you begin an exercise regime with a trainer, someone with your weight needs to have a doctor consultation first. Ask you doctor if he/she would suggest a heart rate monitor. Do NOT start at the GYM, start at your doctor's office and then go to the GYM.

A heart rate monitor is good for everyone. It seems like you have a good healthy way to lose weight. Make sure you have fun exercising too.

you should first ask your doc. I know I've been thinking of investing in a heart monitor because I'm in heart falure, and sometimes I overexert myself and get sick. I've also been thinking of getting a blood pressure cuff, my doc says I don't really need one, but I still think I should get one anyway. I've also got some really cool cans of Oxygen Shots. I use it to breath better, or cool off. You can find them at a few stores, or http://www.oxygenshot.com
