I was looking at heart rate monitors online at a sports store. They range from $35 to over $350. Does anyone recommend a decent brand or type without spending the big bucks? My treadmill at home is lower end and the heart rate doesn't work very well. The one at the gym is fine, but it would nice to have one of my own.

I have a heart rate watch I bought at Target. The brand is Sportline and I think I paid $40 or $50. The rate it shows is always the exact same as the rate on the cardio equipment at the gym.

I had a Polar F11. I bought it on line for $159 with free shippping. I really liked it until it broke. . I sent it in repairs today so I will have to wait until the results come in. I bought it in January of 2007 so hopefully it is still under warranty. My spin cycle instructor has had his for 5 years. When it was working, I loved it. If you are female, it comes in a smaller wrist size. It also is the lowest price Polar HRM that has the really comfortble chest strap. The ones below that F11 have a really uncomforable strap. Also, most gym equipment is coded for Polar HRMs. The F11 has a lot other frills that I learned to use. Once you figure that out, it's fun!
