A year ago I was put in the hospital to recover from six months of anorexia and the health risk of weighing only 70 pounds (I'm 14 and 5'4). After being released, I was on a meal plan for a while and seeing a nutritionist. I wasn't supposed to count but I figured out the meal plan gave me an average of about 4000 calories a day, which gradually got reduced to about 3500, even though I wasn't exercising much at all. I'm wasn't allowed to weigh myself. I still felt fat.I also felt full from eating that much. I'm not seeing the nutritionist any more, I've started eating about 2000 calories a day. The point is, I cut back dramatically from my meal plan and I worry that that screwed up my metabolism, because I feel (and look) like I'm gaining weight.I used to just eat normally!! But the meal plan felt like too much... How do I go back to having a fast metabolism and not having to obsess about what I eat? I feel disgusted with myself whenever I look in the mirror. I need advice.

Truthfully, you may not get it back to normal ever. But since it was a short time, you should get it back to normal within a few months, or maybe a year or so; that's how it was for me.

The best you can do now is to do as every other person wishing to be healthy and fit does...stick to your 2000 calories a day, exercise 3-4 times a week moderately, and stick to it. You didn't have the illness for long enough to have a longterm effect, I don't think. I, on the other hand, developed hypothyroidism some years after my anorexia, but I had issues on and off for ten years and still have some issues.

you should never have tried to change your body in that way, first of all eat regularly and healthy, and try not to worry about it. In a few years if you are still insecure about your body you should be able to exercise while eating healthy but that is the only way you should lose wait and doing it this way looks much better.

i really think you at least need to talk to a cousneller.i was diagnosed with anorexia when i was 13 and im 21 and i'll never be ok.the way i got back on track was to NOT count calories. you need to get out of that habit and start thinking of your body as a car. you ignore the bad stuff coz you know it'll screw up your car. you ignore how much money its gonna cost to fill the whole thing up coz you know you need it. you need fuel to run.ok?so first off, i dont need to tell you to eat as much fruit and veg as you can. try eating at least one peice of meat, chicken or fish a day.i went from eating 1 meal a day and i now eat 6. it took me awhile and i put on weight before i lost it again but im glad i stuck through it.you need to start eating more often so your body thinks that it needs to burn it quicker. its so used to holding on to everything coz it thinks your not going to feed it again.so try eating one thing every 2 hours.an apple. a banana. a handful of grapes. an orange. a kiwifruit. dinner eat a peice of lean chicken.no matter how you feel, you need to think that you're doing whats best for your body. you need to take care of it, and i wont lie- your body might take awhile to readjust and it will still hold on to the fat. after about a month of eating like this, i would start taking very slow walks around the block and eating more.i go to the gym reguarly now and i eat more than one thing every 3 hours. the most important thing to do and think about is you need to take care of your body. good luck.
