|
|
| Ok, I am now 115 pounds, and my height is 5'5. I know that you may say that I don't need to lose any weight..but I have been 105 pounds my whole life (i've been active, and eat healthy..and eat ALOT) Well, I just went to college this past year, and...I've gained 10 pounds of pure fat! I don't know what happened!! I have never gained weight like this before..I use to be thin with muscle..now I have lost my muscle, and am kinda chubby. I think that I gained weight becuase of excess stress..and junk food. Now, I'm going to be coming home from school soon..and I'll be pretty embarressed with this weight that I've gained. I have 5 weeks left...can I lose the 10 pounds? I think that I burn 1500 calories a day..how much should I eat? I also run/walk on the treadmill every day for an hour (i have a polar heart rate monitor, at it says that I burn 500 calories...)Please help..I really want to get back to me! (it seriously is depressing me..) |

| Losing weight is a simple equation: if you burn more calories than you eat, the weight will come off. Start off by estimating how many calories you burn each day using the daily calorie needs calculator http://calorieneedscalculator.com This will give you an idea of how many calories to eat. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. To lose 1 pound per week you need to create a calorie deficit (burn more than you eat) of 500 calories per day. To lose 2 pounds a week, you have to double the deficit to 1000 calories per day. You can achieve this by eating less, exercising more or a combination of both.Beginner's Guide to Dieting - http://straightdiet.com |

| Absolutely! Just 2 pounds a week is a very easy and attainable goal. Start by reducing your calories immediately. Cut the junk food out as much as possible, drink lots of water all day. This will help your body flush out the fat AND keep water retention down. You might drop 4 lbs overnight just in water weight. If you drink soda, diet only. Try snacking on raw fruits and veggies and keep working out. I just lost 12 lbs in 4 weeks doing everything listed above. I still indulge in fast food about once a week, but instead of my usual combo with a Big Mac, fries and Dr. Pepper, I get a cheeseburger and a diet soda. That's it. I still feel like I got the treat of junk food/fast food but know I seriously reduced the number of calories I'd normally consume. Also, check out "I Can Make You Thin" on TLC. The life-changing tips he gives to retrain your eating habits are great and it doesn't require you to actually give anything up. It's not a diet. |

| Yes you should be able to with proper diet and exercise but really you dont need to lose weight maybe just try toning up,do some strength training every other day.The more muscle you have the more fat your body will burn on a constant basis, even while resting. But really you dont need to lose weight your (BMI)body mass index is-(19.1)Normal weight but almost under wieight by one point.Being underweight as well as over weight is neither healthyUnderweight = |

| If I could offer you one piece of advice it would be to stay off of the junk food/fast food. and replace it with high fiber foods and foods you cook your self. I know, I ve done this. As a matter of fact I lost 50 lbs in 3 months time . So, losing 10 lbs in 5 weeks should not be impossable. |

| Awww, yeah, that happens in college - partly b/c you're eating all the wrong foods and the stress is horrible. The quickest fix to get off the flab is dropping most of your carbs - pizza, pasta, snacks (the staples of the college diet!). I would also stop drinking soft drinks. Oh, and count your intake calories vs. your burning off calories (You could probably eat 1500 a day and then burn off a third of that?). Half the time simply being aware of what you eat will psych you into losing weight. Don't ask me why! (writing everything down works for me)Sounds like you're very good about working out/keeping fit, so you shouldn't have to change that. Just drop the foods you're eating that are high in calories/fat/sugar but have little nutritional value and the weight should come off easily, especially as you continue to work out and tone. And, yeah, it's totally embarrassing to go home after college heavier (been there, done that, trust me!!!) but if you can't take off all the weight, don't fret too much. Anyone at home who knows and cares about you won't give a toss -- at least you gained 10, and not the standard 15! Plus, I'm sure you can get it off, from the sound of it. |

| Remember, dropping weight isn't necessarily healthy. You could weigh more and be more fit and slimmer than if you weighed less. Muscle weighs more than fat. I'm not a pro or a specialist, but i would recommend building a little muscle ontop of losing your "freshman 10". Been there. Don't fall for "gimmick" diets like atkins and slimfast, or diet pills. they're a quick fix for a long-term problem and you'll gain all the weight back shortly after you go off the diet or pills. Take hints from them, but remember, it's better to eat right than to NOT eat. The thing with losing weight the healthy way: it's not necessarily how much you eat, but what you eat and when you eat it. Get yourself on a diet (meaning food you eat, not a "diet") of healthy foods like fruits and veggies. Stay with fish and lean meats. Steam things instead of frying them and do your best to cut out the unnecessary fats and trans fats. Couple this with eating 4-6 times a day. If you crash diet, or don't eat then your body goes into starvation mode and thinks it has to store any little bit of fat you take in. Instead, have breakfast, then when you're hungry 3-4 hours later eat some fruit or veggies for a snack. then eat lunch. repeat throughout the day. If you eat when you're hungry and eat HEALTHY, your body won't go into starvation mode and will elevate your metabolism, but if you eat junk like chips and nasty stuff when yo'ure hungry, you're just throwing unneeded fat and calories into the mix and not helping yourself at all. That's number 1. Number 2 is exercising. it seems like you're doing that pretty well. Make sure you're doing a little of everything though. you need cardio to lose weight, but muscle also helps burn fat and calories. You don't have to bulk up, but say, using your arms and 3lb weights in your hands will be more effective on a treadmill than just walking. Also, try Yoga. That's helped me a whole lot. I used to be over 200 lbs, and now 4 weeks later i'm 185. The thing is, i'm slimmer than i used to be (lost almost 3 inches in my waist) and a whole lot stronger without being bulky. Weight doesn't really mean anything, it's just a number.Number 3 is drinking. It happens in college. I"m not gonna preach how it's bad because everybody knows it goes on. Something you may not know about it is that your body burns the alcohol before it burns any calories or fat. So if you have some beers with your girls some night but share a huge pile of nachos or fries or a burger, all that fat and grease and calories are just sitting in your stomach, turning to fat because you're drinking and burning the alcohol energy before the fat energy. My advice is to cut down on the alcohol too. Eat right, and just before you go out and above all, make sure you're safe and smart. |
