I do a lot of stretching both before and after the run and my legs still get sore at about the 3rd mile. I am only in my twenties and I didn't think this was supposed to happen for another 5 yrs or so. Is it possible that I have the wrong type of running shoe? what can I do? I want to be able to run 4-5 miles per day.I should also add that I do work out my legs at the gym but I do not run on the day that I do that and I still do plenty of stretches

Try wearing Nike Shox they are more supportive.Maybe you are running to fast and exhausting yourself, or not staying hydrated?Or maybe you are not doing the right type of stretches?

It's probably the shoe. Shox are really good for running and also so are Nike Air. Maybe you could try these. Also , you can try streching in between every mile or 2 that always helps me =]Hope I helped!

perhaps it is the running shoe or perhaps you should not try running long distance because your body's specific design isn't for that. check for any similar problems in your immediate family because this can potentially turn into a major problem as you get older. many athletes change their entire work out because of similar issues.

Running is not as great as everyone thinks. I'll let everyone else give you tips on surface shoes etc., but I will tell you there are a lot of baby boomers who , in their retirement find themselves with extreme knee pain due to jogging. I know people love it as an activity as well as exercise , but why not switch it up with bicycling ?by the way stretching is hooey check out this link.

Try going to a feet/shoe store. I have seen commercials for places that will make you a type of orthotics that can elimate 'mysterious' pains that you cannot figure out where they are coming from. Here's a link for one place, but there's a better one, I just can't remember the name. I will try to find it for you. http://www.goodfeet.com/

before your run and stretches take advil or some kind of pain killer. they may have pain killers for muscles maybe. if the pain continues you may have the wrong kind of shoe. if your flat footed you may need arch supports.

Check your feet with a wet test, to see if you are wearing the correct shoe. This is where you step in some liquid then step on a clean surface and look at your foot print. After that you can select a shoe designed for your type of feet, there are three types.over stretching can hurt more than it help, especially pre-stretching, all you want to do in stretching is to wake your muscles up so they know they are about to be used, afterwards you can stretch until your heart is content.Drink plenty of water.Muscle soreness is usually caused by a build up of Lactid Acid, give your legs a massage after a long run.
