| Sodium (otherwise know as SALT) can actually make you gain weight because it will make your body retain water because your body is trying to flush out all the salt. However a little salad like that isnt going to do you anything, its only if you're comsuming teaspoonfulls of it... |

| make your own.....(i got this recipe from a nutrionist) get low fat cottage cheese 1% and a packet of ranch powder and mix it in a blender and 1 % milk to you disired consisancy. it is packed with protein b/c of the cheese which is good for you. to me it actually tasted better than the stuff you buy. |

It's all about CALORIES. Sodium can make you temporarily retain water, which you will pee out. And that has to be A LOT of sodium. (Not 13%.)Cut out sugar, soft drinks, snacks, fried foods, and fast food. Drink lots of water, Only eat when you're hungry, and quit when you're content. And MOVE. Walking is great exercise. At least 25 minutes a day. The more you move the better.A good salad dressing is fat free or low fat mayo and ketchup. (Instant 1000 island. Or Spray dressing.) |

| I am looking at an Italian Dressing packet. It too has 13% sodium but it says a serving is 2 tablespoons of prepared dressing. It says for that serving size it contains 140 calories. It states that 13% is 320 mgs....I am wondering 13% of what? I guess this means 13% of your daily total, so now the question is do you want to consume 13% of your daily total sodium in only two tablespoons of dressing. I may be able to consume that same 13% but in something that is more filling..maybe a bowl of soup, for example. Maybe I can still have the salad with another dressing that contains less sodium or use less dressing; thereby, consume less sodium. Of course, this 13% of your daily intake means your on a 2500 mg sodium diet. I generally try to shoot for 2000 mgs of sodium a day for myself, so 320 of that number is more than 13% so it matters more to me to watch my sodium...but the key to sodium is drink a lot of water to flush it out often. I try to drink 6 8oz glasses daily. |
