Afraid of gaining it or afraid of losing it? You're title says one and comment says the other. I think you'd probably still lose weight only eating 500 calories a day.. but theres excercise you can do which don't require a knee.

500 calories a day is not enough for you. At that rate your body will go into starvation mode and actually try to save what little energy it is getting. The average adult should be following the FDA guidelines, which state about 2,000 calories a day. Stay away from the fad diets or the "starve yourself" meal plans -- they will put you in an early grave long before eating a normal meal will.

500 calories isn't enough to sustain your bodily functions. I eat 1200 a day to loose weight and I loose 2 to 4 pounds per week on that.

500 calories a day can't possibly be a balanced diet. It'll put your body into starvation mode, so you probably won't lose weight. How 'bout trying something better for you, like finding a form of exercise you can do with the injury?

You are going to starve yourself with that few calories. Go here to get your BMR http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ After you know your caloric needs, just stay within those numbers and you will maintain your weight. 500 calories a day will result in malnutrition and loss of muscle. Eventually, you will have organ damage as well.

With 500 cals per day you will lose weight. However this is so drastic you body may begin to burn protein and muscle mass as well. Go online and fine a calorie calculator that will estimiate your requirement for your age, gender, height and weight and start there. Modify intake later as needed. Once you start running again you will burn it off anyway.

Did you mean you lowered your calorie intake TO 500 a day, in which case you will become very sick very soon, or did you mean you lowered your calorie intake BY 500 a day, in which case I think that number sounds about right.

Even on only 500 calories a day, you may gain weight, because you body will react to the drastic cut in caloric intake by slowing its rate of metabolism, so as to conserve the few calories. You will probably be able to maintain your weight if you take in 1200-1500 calories a day, & begin doing what exercise you are able to do with out further stressing your injured knee. If you have access to a pool, that would be ideal, as you can avoid any weight bearing.

You will not gain weight taking in 500 calories. You will loose a lot of weight and not the kind of weight you want to loose. It will be muscle mass. I can probably assume that since you run 2 hours a day you are somewhat lean, so you have very little fat reserves to burn. Also, you probably are the sort of runner who does nothing for your upper body in the form of workouts. Sounds like you are going to have to stay off the knee, eat at least 2100 calories of good foods a day, rest, heal and start back again when you feel well enough. I am also a runner but over the years have learned to mix it up a little. I run no more then 5K every other day with a spinning class on the front or back end of the work out. I also cycle in between. I also do two days of upper body with lower body every other day. I mix it up. I have been exercising/running/cycling for 35 years and I can count the times on one hand I have been injured. If your are injuring yourself you are doing something wrong. Visit a sports medicine clinic or facility if you want to continue running.
