battle gear on, floating on water! i mean combat boots and all! is this training only unique to the Marine Corps? and one other question for Marines and former Marines, did any of you notice that during third phase of Marine boot camp, even though it is still challenging the drill instructors dont scream at you as much as they have during first and second phase? lol, one more question during the week recruits are assigned to mess duty do the drill instructors have a week off during the training cycle? i dont remember seeing any one of them during this period

i don't know about that training being unique to the Corps, cause i think that every branch does some sort of water survival training. during third phase of boot camp, the DI's are supposed to "build you up" after treating you horribly for two months, but it didn't really work that way for me. recruits aren't assigned to the mess hall anymore. and th DI's never have time off...kinda. lol. there's always at least one with you at all times.

The DI's are more hands off in 3rd Phase. Team week during boot camp was the best for me besides grad. day because we assigned to different jobs (I passed out skivies, socks, other hygiene gear for the receiving recruits (new recruits that have not been assigned a platoon yet.) Swim qual. was the most challenging for me though.

No Im sure other branches have water survival in thier criteria. No I never noticed a difference in the D.I's attitude untill the very last week, but I guess that was why we were Honor platoon. We took just about everything and was kind of demoralizing to other platoons, but eh F*ck that. The way we saw it was they just didn't want it bad enough. There was always one D.I. on duty in the duty hut durning mess and maintenance, but I imagine he probably had his feet kicked up on the desk and was reading a magazine during this time.

No the other branches do not have a "swim qual" unless it is specific to their job. Not even the Navy.lol. Half the sailors I met said they couldn't swim.
