I'm going on a spring break vacation in exactly a month and my mid-section is an embarrassing problem, especially when I'll have to be in a swim suit. I really want to either lose weight or tone up -or both (the numbers aren't so important as long as I just get leaner). I'm definitely not fat, but within this past year, out of nowhere, I gained around 20 lbs most of which on my stomach. I was so used to being the skinny girl, but now I'm so self-concious about my mid-section. The weight gain really scared me, and now I just to fix the problem before it gets worse. I already have a personal trainer which is a huge help (we do strength training) and I try to fit in cardio when I can. I try to eat healthy but I have a huge sweet tooth. I've put in a lot of effort to get in shape but I've gotten no results and its starting to drain my motivation. If anyone has advice for me (how often to work out, specific work outs, meal plans/diets, anything?) that would be extremely appreciated! thanks!

The best thing would be to join Weight Watchers. They have a comprehensive eating plan and lifestyle change program to address your problems. And continue with the trainer. You can do at least 30 minutes of aerobic (cardio) work each day. If you are working with weights (strength training?) you can do that every other day. You cannot safely lose 20 pounds in a month, but you can definitely make some nice progress toward being fitter and leaner in that amount of time. All it will take is determination and a plan. Just remember: If you keep on doing what you were doing, you will get the results you got! You have to make some changes. You can do it!

You sound like you're really stressing about this hun. It's good that you've gotten a personal trainer (I'm a qualified personal trainer myself - we do good stuff). Strength training helps increase the amount of fat you can burn but the real fat burner is doing cardio most days. If you could do around 30 minutes of cardio most or everyday at around moderate intensity, I'm sure you would see some results. Aerobics is really good but walking, jogging, riding are all fantastic as well. Even playing a sport you like such as soccer or netball will go a long way. Combining strength training with cardio is a sure way to get results. So in the end, I think you may need to be doing more cardio to shed those extra pounds. In terms of food, try looking at low GI, slow release energy foods. They give you energy for longer and are better for you.
