Heart rate monitor says I burned 300 calories in one hour. I was lying down! Can't be right, can it?

I just bought a Polar F6 heart rate monitor, and read somewhere that it's interesting to wear the chest strap all night to see what your resting heartrate is and calories burned. I've been sitting here for two hours, and apparently burned 600 calories. That simply cannot be right. Granted I do weight 230 lbs, but still...this is RESTING, not exercising, so that would mean I burn at least 6,000 calories per day...obviously not right.I bought this monitor because I read such good reviews and how accurate it was, but now I'm doubting my purchase. Any advice?I entered in my height, weight, age, and sex. I just seems WAY way off to me. It has to be! Or else I'd be skinny if I burned that much! lol

well, you do burn calories just from living... But im not sure, check the manual to see if you need to calibrate it or something.

i don't think that heart rate monitors work right unless you hit a certain heart rate, probably one thats more than resting. or that's what we discussed one day on another board anyway. maybe thats why.
