Yes, i think it would be useful to have a gear in chennai. It's easier to control the bike, easier to ride and easier to stop. I suggest you the Salcano bikes. I have been using mine for 4 years and it's still perfect.

well, i recently got mine from an authorized BSA showroom.TI cycles which makes herculese has one of the best looking, cycles with a great finish. it may be a bit pricy than hero, which can be the second alternative, ti cycles are really really nice, with some great designs. cycling in chennai, well, for a kid, its a great present especially a one with a gear. gear cycles are extremely useful for long trips, inclined roads and high speeds, or even for the sheer fun of riding a geared cycle. i got a hercules ryder, which was abt 5k, and i do around 40 - 50 km a week, and cycling never felt any more fun and good while riding a geared cycle.its any day more fun than riding a single speed cycle.as i said earlier, ti cycles/hercule, are one of the best iv seen. do check out hero and atlas as well.there are a couple of ggod shops in chennai, a couple of them in adyar, t nagar and parrys.the price, yes it is a bit more expensive, but its worth it, hero and atlas are considerably cheaper.
