Tried to cure a wet clothes issue, I replaced an undamaged coupler as precaution, and the dogs in agitator. Upon reassemble and 1st start, the machine barely agitates at all now and gives a large clacking sound from below every 2 seconds while in wash cycle. Also, lights flicker in the room in time with clacking sound. Left motor hooked up but removed pump and removed motor from gear drive to rule out those two issues. Fired up in wash mode and the noise continues from inside the motor. Sounds like an internal clutch within motor clacking every two seconds. With that, the motor turns but cycles on and off while clacking noise. Think the motor is burning out and have ordered new but not sure why as it was fine until replacment of coupler. Simple job which is now a nightmare. Ordered $150 motor and will install but afraid something else is really causing issue that damaged old motor and might damage the new. Motor also hot to the touch. Where did I go wrong with coupling job?

My best guess is that the machine was overloaded and that led to the motor overheating. Everything else aside, once the motor is overheated it will never be able again to function to duty specs. The internal meltdown is translated outward into the voltage supply wires. This type of breakdown is known as the domino effect and if you replace the motor alone,it will not last long due to the now poor condunctance of the wires suppling the motor. These machines are not designed to take this kind of 'shock' to the overall scheme of design. They are pourpously desind to fail in a dramatic way. That means replace it.
