| Sometimes when you are diabetic, your metabolism can suddenly take a swing . . . But most of the time that occurs when you are seeing a physician. |

| most likely the actos, a lot of diabetes medications (except metformin because part of its action is to block absorption of carbs, sort of like how alli blocks absorption of fat) cause weight gain, mainly because most of them cause more insulin to be released or for actos, for insulin to be used more efficiently which improves your usage of sugar. when you have uncontrolled diabetes, your body isnt using sugar properly so it accumulates and makes your blood sugar really high, then you start to pee off sugar which is really, really bad for your kidneys (so dont stop the drug because youre gaining weight) and cardiovascular system, but you lose weight because you are urinating off calories rather than using and storing those sugars. dont let it discourage you though, keep up the diet and excercise (if you're cleared to do so by your doc), especially if you were just diagnosed. sometimes mild, early cases of diabetes can be reversed. |
