| I have been drinking and smoking for years and I think that my health has become worse. I mainly do strength training exercises and few aerobic exercises, except swimming. I want to check how fit I am, how do I do this? I want to start exercising regularely and stop smoking... what is a good exercise programme? I am in my early 20s... |

| Start running at around 8 MPH and see how long you last.2 hours pretty aerobically fit, 2 minutes you have some work to do. |

| join a gym and get a personal trainer session...how high is your resting heart rate? count over 6 seconds and add a zero to get beats per minute. At rest you should aim for 70 or lower the rate during exercise will depend on your age but you need to get it upto about 140 for 20 minutes to work the heart and lungs. how quickly your heart rate goes back down will show how fit you are.my resting rate is 40 but I'm very fit. I work hard to get it upto 130-140 during a workout and it goes down to 90 within two minutes. I'm older than you..so you should beat that eventually |

| There are several tests that you can do yourself to estimate your aerobic capacity. Please e-mail me if you'd like details. |
