I'm a 13 year old girl and I'm a little underweight, not much, but still a little. I eat pretty healthy already, but I want to gain just a little weight. Is there a way I could do this with a little muscle instead of fat? I'm an iceskater and I'm going to do track so muscle would be good anyway. I have this excersise video that's for toning and it uses lunges, squats, and other arm excersises and you do it with light weights. Since I'm 13 I use 2 pounds weights. This won't stunt my growth will it, because the weights are so light? I plan on doing stretching, crunches, push-ups, and stuff like that too. Will this help me tone up and gain a little muscle. Oh and I'm not talking about a lot of muscle just a little. Thanks! SmileI'd really like to be stronger, lol Smile

No, it will not stunt your growth. If you are going to do track, you might want heavier weights. I would say a pair of 10 lb dumbells. Do jumping squats to train for explosiveness when you are on the track. It helps you get that first step out quicker. The lunges, squats that you have mentioned are excellent. They are compound exercises that work multiple leg muscle groups. You might want to do lightweight bench presses too. Strong chest helps with your speed too believe it or not. Definitely work on your abs every other day but not everyday because your muscles need time to recover. Abs (your core) are very important to running faster. Hope this helps.

I agree that 2 pounds is far to light, use at least 5-7 pounds!Squats are good to, and crunches should help with your stomach! good luck!
