I am thinking of starting a diet and exercise plan to lose a few pounds and I want to ask friends to participate, but I do not know if this would be a good idea.

both. you can ask your friend to participate this can be a key factor in your plan to lose weight because this is a great motivation. working out with friends help you get motivated

Yes, if you can find someone to do that. Then you'll be more likely to build up each other and keep with what you're doing.

Sure it would! Almost everyone I know wants to do both. Even better, put some money down on your results. That will spur you both on.

It does help for both.... Make sure your exercise buddy has the same or more motivation than yourself as when you are having a low day and do not feel like working out, then your buddy will push you, if you get a buddy who has less motivation than you, you may end up watching a movie or sit around talking.If you live alone, a diet buddy is good as you can talk about favourite low-fat meals and invite one another to your houses to share dinners (So you will eat less!), however if you have family and/or roommates it is best to get everyone involved.
