Male.. lost about 40lbs over the last year, was 307 @ 6ft4in and am currently at 267. I am starting to step up my diet and physical workouts (I do not currently have alot of muscle mass). Confused about training, how can anyone ever get it right? do alot of cardio, don't do to much cardio etc, etc. I need to lose fat and gain muscle. I will consume a very well balanced diet (not supplements). Planning the following workout regime, what are your thoughts. Workouts (an example for the first 6 weeeks in training)Mon - offTues - Upper body work out (muscle group A), 30 minutes treadmillWed -Upper body work out (muscle group B), 30 minutes treadmillThurs-offFri-Upper body work out (muscle group A), 30 minutes treadmillSat-Upper body work out (muscle group B), 30 minutes treadmillSun-offSo basically I am going to work out 4 days a week, lifting with heavier weights to build mass and 30 minutes of Treadmill. 3 days rest. Focused on 2 groups of upper body muscles to start

Hi, That sounds like a reasonable workout and you should create some gains with it. Rather than doing cardio i like to incorporate body weight circuit training which works as does cardio but also helps with muscular endurance, explosiveness flexibility and muscle toning. The following is just one of my workouts http://markschat.blogspot.com/2007/09/home-workout-part-1_4237.html

Good for you, keep up the good work, and I do mean work. There isnt really a set way to do any of this because each individuals genetic make up is different. The plan that you suggest sounds good, although I would encourage you to'start with low weights and lots of reps to develope tone first while still losing some more weight. After some time, which allows your body to get accustomed to the rigors of working out regularly then start to slowly increase the weight. Good luck. Stick with it and eat only the healthy stuff.
