It all depends on your goals and what you want to accomplish. Are you trying to increase your VO2 max? Are you training for a marathon? Sure it is beneficial but without knowing what you are trying to achieve it's difficult to determine...

It depends how fast you run and whether you repeat this every week. It sounds like you are on the right track, because it is generally good to run 3-5 days / week so your body builds muscle but has time to rest and recover.

It is not just about running. What you eat is a huge factor. Also 5miles is a lot if your a not a runner to begin with. If your running on pavement there will be some wear and tear on the knees a tred mill is not as hard on the joints compared to pavement. If your dead set on running that much as far as the multiple days alternate the mileage. When your doing back to back days go five one day then two, back to five so on. Doing other exercises will also help. Crunches are better than sit ups. leg lifts and raises are also good. But the bottom line is if you don't eat right and dont stick with it it wont help. GOOD LUCK!!!
