I decided to take a week off after several weeks of intense weight lifting training. Last week I bit off more than I could chew and my rotator cuff is paying for it. I was always told to take a week off to recover however I feel like as though I am going to get more out of shape. My question to you is how long can one take off from training to recover without worrying about losing gains? Usually after a week I come back stronger but sometimes it just plan hurts. It's not like I'm 23 again instead 33 means more pain for less gain...

it is good to take a week off every now and theni took one last week for the holidaysjust remember that us gym buffs get back to our norm routine in no timegive it a week and you'll be lifting heavier because every muscle is fully rejuvenateddo less sets or less weights for a week and next week go back to what you were doing the 3rd week increase the weight

I understand what you're saying. I would say you need as much time as you can to recover. You will pay for it over and over again if you don't properly rest and take care of yourself. I know I have. If you don't take care of yourself and give yourself time, you could have more serious injuries in the future. Believe me, 2 weeks of eating right and LIGHT exercise could keep you fit without losing much of your gains. There are sacrifices you have to make in order to stay strong. If that means taking off 2 weeks to get that rotator cuff better, then so be it.Hope this helps!
