Ok. Well I'm very overweight (Clinically obese) and I'm sick of it. I gained all of my weight over the last 4 or 5 years, I actually used to be pretty small. I've lost weight before and I'm not too out of shape, just in a chunky shape. I can run and lift wieghts just fine. Either way, this is my plan.Food:Lower my portions by maybe a 3rdTry not to eat anything over 30% fat (Sometimes you can't avoid it)Eat more vegies and fruitsExercise:Lifting Wieghts in the gym (Low weight, High reps) (Once or twice a week)Run for about 20 minutes a dayRun a mile once a week (Full Effort)Alright, will this work? If so, How quickly? Thanks.

i would crank up the cardio. but go slowly. gradually increase it until you are running 45 minutes 3 to 4 times a week. this is the fat burning level

It is hard to say how quickly it would work (as everyone is different)...but it is healthy and intelligent. Kudos for actually making a plan that has hopes of success. Just stick to it and give yourself little rewards (not food) along the way. It helps to have incentive and positive reinforcement.

I think you've got a good plan, but instead of lowering your portions by a third, you might want to start measuring your food so you can see what a normal serving looks like. Also, try to cut out sugar and soda and drink lots of water. For exercise, doctors recommend 30 minutes a day, not 20, and since you are a man, you can do higher weight and lower reps when you are working out to help build muscle.

Well to be honest, you didn't quite give me enough info to tell you it's going to work or not. Let's start with cutting calories by a third:If you're currently overeating, then cutting it by a third might just get youto the point where you're consuming the amount you should. That means you'll maintain your current weight, not lose weight. A better option is to figure out how many calories you need, you can use the calorie calculator here: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/calorie-calculator/NU00598 , and subtract 400 calories from that number. Moving on to eating anything over 30% fat:Okay, if I understand you right you're saying you're going to look at the nutritional information and if more than 30% of it's calories come from fat you won't eat it. That is a decent rule to follow, but I would focus more on how many fat grams you're taking in each day (to lose weight it should be under 30 grams) and how many calories your taking in. Also remember, just because something is low in fat doesn't mean that it's good for a diet.Eating more veggies and fruits:Awesome!!!! This is one of the best things anyone can do for any diet. Okay.... so on to your exercise plan:To be honest I think you can do better. Just to maintain a healthy body it's recommended to get 30 minutes of exercise a day (not necessarily all at once). Also, when you work out for longer than 20 minutes, all the calories that are burned after the 20 minute mark are fat calories giving you some extra weight loss where it matters. Even if you upped your workout to 30 mins a day, you'll see more of a difference. The easy way to figure out how effective any weight loss plan is or will be is the following equation:3000 (amount of calories in one pound of fat)/average calories burned or cut from diet in a day = how many days it will take you to lose a lb
