protein isnt energy, your energy is ATP, you can eat Carbohydrates for primary energy source then backed up by fats, protein is amino acids used to rebuild and repair tissues like muscle tissue....it may help for weight loss, but not good for energy source

Protein is an excellent source of energy but it is not an instant energy that your body can process quickly and give you a boost of energy, protein is great to repair muscle that you use a lot during heavy intense exercise like weight lifting or bicycle climbing.Protein in excess can make you gain weight, definitely, if you don't burn enough calories.See, if you want instant energy and you are in your ideal weight then you need about 100 calories of carbohydrates before intense exercise and add about 100 calories of carbs every 50 to 60 minutes depending on the intensity of it. Once you have fisnished exercising then you can replenish with about 200 to 300 calories of pure protein to repair muscle so you gain muscle not lose it and to give you enough energy for your next round of exercise.

Carbs are where you get your energy from. Protein is for building muscle and things like that (Protein Drinks? People drink them to build muscle or at least try to build muscle). I believe that the only time protein is used as a form of energy for the body is when you are becoming severely malnourished and your bodies muscle tissue (that's where the protein comes from) is used after all the carbs are gone (fat deposits and things like that). Because muscle is more dense than fat you may, after losing some fat, gain weight as muscle is created by the body.
