I'm interested in buying a treadmill but I have a few common questions. Here's some general info on me: I'm 28yo White male, gained 30lbs in 1 years time. I'm 5"11 and 190lbs. I don't exercise at all and my job involves sitting at the pc all day but I want to get in better shape. Here are my questions:1) How do you know how many calories you burn while on a treadmill?2) What speed should I begin with and for how long should I walk/run/jog?3) What brand of shoes would you recommend for running on the treadmill? I gather running shoes, lol..but I want the most reputable brand.4) Is there 1 brand of treadmill that's considered the best? I know that some have a uphill feature? If there's anything I'm not factoring or thinking of please let me know.

Go for the lifefitness machine. Its a mix of a stair stepper and a tread mill. It's calorie weight burn is superior to a treadmill. The 30lbs you gain in a yr. you will lose in 3 or 4 months with a healthy diet and at least 42-60 min. workout 4 or more times a wek. Trust me. I speak from experience.

1. If you are 5’11” and 190, you are not that bad off. 1 hour of Cardio averages out to about 900 calories burned. Everyone’s body is different and metabolism is also different so that is just an average.2. Speed is not the issue- Your heart rate is. If you want to do Cardio, take a 5 min warm –up and then keep your heart rate above 150. Many different heart rate watches and monitors you can purchase. They also have sensors on some treadmills.3. Shoes to buy? This is hard to answer on here because everyone runs a little different. Many shoe stores now days will have you run on a treadmill for 2 minutes and then advise you on the correct shoe to purchase. Look up GoodFeet and some footlockers have this service. I am sure you can find one in your area, they are booming everywhere. I particularly like New Balance.4. The brand may not matter; try to find one with an uphill feature and the different modes like interval training, cardio, fat burn etc.I would not completely rely on the treadmill. It is good for bad weather but you really should use it for intervals and fat burn and try to get outside and run.Make sure you eat right and allow a break for your muscles to rest. GOOD LUCK DUDE
