I am 45 of normal weight have done body bump and yoga for years but due to neck injury i am having to give up body pump. i dont like swimming as this hurts my neck ??? think cause i dont like getting my face wet!Anyway i am thinking of going to gym. how long should i spend on running machine etc to maintain toning and how many reps should i do on the weight machines? In body pump i would spend about 5 mins on each muscle group with weights. ? Also how can i stop myself getting bored there?

Remember to start out slow and build up from there. I would personally start with 10 reps and 3 sets with a minute rest in between the sets. Also to keep your self from getting bored you should go to the park and ride a bike, walk or run..play a sport. DO NOT FORGET CARDIO!

You don't have to swim or get your face wet to get a great workout in the water. When I busted my knee I did 6 weeks of water aerobics and I looked and felt great. It's low impact, but with a good instructor you can really tone your body, and it is a full body workout. I would do it again if I still had a pool that I could use. If you are doing yoga, can you also do pilates? That is great for toning your core muscles.
