i'm overweight. despite bein so, i exercise regularly, (3 times a week, and sometimes 4 times, 20 mins every session), and im able to maintain my body weight, and i do feel healthy, (though maybe im not). im planning to start intensive exercises such as weightlifting, swimming, maybe a lot of sit ups and push ups, i mean all those that u people do to have great muscles. the question is now, will i be able to really tone my muscles, until perhaps, i may seem muscular, especially in the abdominal area. coz my waist is quite big, even my love handle, is quite big, and some say its impossible to get rid of that area, regardless of any exercise that i do, as im really FAT. IS THIS TRUE? i just dont want to hope too much but in the end i get frustrated, but i think im still gonna go on with those workouts, just wondering whether what people said is true. Will i be able to tone my muscles to become muscular especially in the abdominal area (love handle), even if i'm really fat. plz b honest.

I use to be like 20-30lbs over weighter....I lost 30lbs.... I go to the gym like 3-4 times a week... Even tho I lost that weight my belly fat still didn't go away and I didn't gain muscle like I wanted to...Finally after working out all summer it is winter now it's starting to change.... I run 4 laps on the treadmil 200sit ups and lift small amouts of weights for now only because I do not want to put more weight on I just want to tone for right now... I started off w/ 40 then then 90 then 120-140 sits ups w/ a 70lb weight.... Now that i'm up to 200 I feel like it's working 10x better!!! I don't just don't give up and eat less sugar!!! I know it's hard cause I always do and then I feel like puking it up but ya gotta just try!!

Once you have fat cells, they stick around. Period. That being said, you *can* minimize them over time.Sounds like you are on the right track, but you have to be mindful of your goals- if you want to get rid of excess inches, you need to do more cardiovascular exercises (running, cycling, swimming), and less muscle-building exercises. Weightlifting is great for amping up your metabolism, but will not do much to show off your new toned physique. Also, this does not do a lot to strengthen your heart, so that you have better overall health benefits. And when you say maybe you're not so healthy right now, I wonder about the other side of fitness for you: reexamine your diet, make sure you aren't consuming empty calories/excess carbohydrates (not advocating low carb here, just sensible amounts), and getting a good ratio of fats to protein to carbs. Otherwise, all the exercise in the world is like trying to swim a 100 meter fly with another person on your back, and you don't need that extra challenge!

it's possible. You're toning and growing your muscles regardless of if you can see them or not. That's important. The more muscles you have, the more calories your body will be devoting to maintaining them (especially when you continually use them) instead of maintaining your fat. Maybe you would want to consider increasing your weight lifting regiment to the next level? go for like 45 min 3x per week, get a trainer? Keep up the good work, you're doing great! Keepin that positive attitude will really help you out too!Yes, it's true that for men, losing weight around abdomin and obliques (love handles) is typically the most difficult and last area to lose the weight. However, cleaning up your diet, adding in cardio (like swimming and elipticals), and weight lifting seems to be the 3 cornerstones to getting you to where you want to be.
