|
|
| I'm a male, 6'1", 220Lbs, not in shape but not in horrible shape either (I don't have a hard time moving around, multiple floors of stairs are no problem for me etc) but I have never in my life been on any kind of a workout routine and I'm 33 years old. I just got a tradmill, used from craigslist, seems to run and work fine, plenty of room for walking on it etc. I wanted to get something specifically for walking for cardio workout. When I get on this thing within minutes my legs are in incredible pain. The pain is on the outside of my legs (so left side of my left leg, right side of my right leg) from the ankle half way up the calve. It gets so painful I have to stop. Tried walking with tennis shoes, without, etc same thing. What gives?Almost forgot, I know what "muscle burn" feels like, this is by far more intense. I have an extremely high tolerance for pain and this causes me to have to stop...Banana and stretching good ideas, thanks. As for the incline it actually hurts LESS when the incline is up to a 5-10 grade. I've started using it to work my legs more thinking maybe that would help in the long run so now I do 30 minutes at a 10-15 incline at 3.5mph pushing with my legs bracing wth arms, seems to completely work the legs and hopefully over time I can do a regular freaking fast paced walk without this pain. |

| Your body isn't use to running. You need to slowly increase your running on the treadmill. Basically the muscle is pulling away from the bone. Also, you need to stretch before and after working out. Eat a banana that will add potassium to your muscles that will help with cramping and soreness. |

| Try and stretch out your legs prior to getting on it. |

| Your body is using muscles that you have not used before. I just started working out with my personal trainer last week and I know how you feel. It's rough in the beginning but it will get better in due time!. Good Luck with staying in shape! |

| Sounds like you have a treadmill that has a bit of an incline. If you are talking about the muscle that runs in front of your leg from knee to ankle, just outside of your shin. Then what you are experiencing is normal. See if you can't adjust the incline or your treadmill until your legs adjust to strenuous walking. |
