| Can someone please explain the difference between running on the eliptical machine and running outside? I can easily do 30 minutes on the eliptical machine barely breaking a sweat, but today I tried running outside and I had to stop and walk after only 10 minutes? I felt like I could hardly breath? Whats the deal and which is better for you? Thanks |

| The eliptical machine is virtually zero impact so your joints and back don't take the pounding like they do when running/jogging.To up the intensity a little try the eliptical without holding on to the handles. You'll have to recruit more muscles to stabilize yourself and maintain balance which should make it a harder workout for you.Good luck and train hard!! |

| If your joints can take the pounding, running outside is better. Some people are very against running outside-but who cares. It is harder due the constant changing terrain-even on paved raods. Your body has to make 100s of tiny adjustsments with each step for: wind, level ground, unlevel ground, incline, decline, pace adjustments when a machine is setting the pace for you.Try going a little slower the next time you run outside-remember, you're looking for a target heart rate, not a distance in miles. The distance and time will come later. |

| What's better is whichever one you can stick to. I personally get bored out of my mind running indoors, but I can run for miles outside. The elliptical machine is better on your knees, too! |
