| Hi, I started working out at a Curves, three times a week, five weeks ago. Two weeks ago, I started supplementing that with exercise on a Gazelle Glider 2-3 times a week on the days I don't go to Curves. I've had really good results so far: I've lost 8 lbs. and 13 inches total from my body. However, for the past week, I've had a feeling of tightness or mild cramping (not soreness) in my calves whenever I am sitting down that doesn't go away unless I get up and walk around . (I always warm up before exercising and do about 5-10 minutes of stretching afterwards.) This is really frustrating because I am otherwise feeling so good, with so much more energy, and I love the results I'm seeing in my body. And I'm eating right -- lean meats, veggies & fruits, whole grains -- and I take a multivitamin and calcium supplements. Any ideas as to what could be causing the tightness/cramping in my calves? I feel like I'm doing everything the right way so I'm at a loss. Thanks |

| Tightness and cramping in the calves, or a "charlie horse" can have many causes. In your case, I think the problem is hydration. Since you're just starting to workout at a increased level of intensity than your body is used to, you're probably sweating a lot, thus losing the lbs. Be sure to stay hydrated, drink lots of water and gatorade. Your muscles won't cramp when you have fluids running your body and relieving the muscles that you are using in your workouts. Also, it is definitely a good idea to warm up before exercising, but be sure to stretch for a little bit in the middle of your workout too just before you get to the harder exercises. Hope this helps! |

| I think you've calf muscle injury. It could be caused by hard running, sudden fast starts and stops and the hard pressure/force you exert on your legs when you exercise.........This article explains it all: http://www.perfect-body-toning.com/calf-muscle-injuries.html |
