rotating both. doing either one for too long a time allows your body to adapt to the motion decreasing your total fat burn potential. alternating machines and intensities every month will ensure that the body does not have time to adapt thus giving you the maximum burn.

elliptical. you can grasp the handles and be working the arms, burning more calories. So, unless you are running on the treadmill, go with an elliptical. Also, the elliptical has varying levels of incline and resistance to strengthen and tone all your muscles. Plus it works abs by having you support yourself.

Ellipi burns more than twice the calories than a treadmill. HOWEVER, most people can not stay on the ellipi for as long as the treadmill. In order to lose weight you need to be at your target heart rate for AT LEAST 35 mins. To figure target heart rate subtract your age from 220 and then multiply by .85. As a personal trainer I recommend going on the Ellipi for as long as you can and then finish your workout on the treadmill. If you have to choose one over the other take the ellipi and work up your endurance.

Actually, a treadclimber is better because it combines the technology of both the treadmill and the elliptical as well as stair stepper. I have one and I have lost over 50 pounds. It works for me. Good Luck

This is a personal decision for me, but I would choose an elliptical. Ellipticals tend to have a lower impact rate then treadmills which would be good for you since you're not as athletic. And for me, Ellipticals seem to be more fun and interesting. Part of getting in shape is sticking with it. So your workout has to be as fun as it can be. For me, treadmills are boring and I cant motivate myself to stick with it. I always hit the elliptical when I go to the gym though. I can get a good full body workout and my body isn't hurting after. If you are considering what kind of treadmill or elliptical to get, I recommend going to www.whenrunninginplace.com. They take all the reviews from the different online reviewers and come up with an average score/rating for the different ellipticals and treadmills. You can also see side by side comparisons for all the different models. You should check it out if you are looking for a treadmill or elliptical.Good Luck!
