|
|
| Just wondering which burns more calories if you go the same distance and time. For example if I jog 3 miles in 30 minutes or do 3 miles on the elipitical in 30 minutes. I have a lot of weight to lose. thanks!! |

| I say treadmill because you can walk or run on it & you will probably get more of a workout and you can always change the speeds if you feel like tired and want to go slower or when your full of energy you can go faster..either way you get a good workout, you will also probably never get bored cuz you can always change the speed(always different) |

| when you think of how many calories you burn, the speed at which you do it doesn't make a different. the INTENSITY does. you can alter intensity with the slope/incline on exercise machine. this is why the elliptical will burn many more calories than say just walking on a treadmill at a flat surface/small incline. burning calories depends on the DISTANCE you go, NOT the TIME at which you travel. for instance, running 2 miles will burn the same amount of calories as walking two miles, but RUNNING 2 miles will just take less time. |

| elliptical burns more calories based on time since you move your arms as well so its a good machine. if you are considering buying for home use however, get a treadmill, you will find that having your hands free allows you to use your treadmill and still do other things, like reading a magazine or making phone calls or even playing video games while you walk. i have both machines in my home just for that reason. i only go to the gym to lift weights, the walking/jogging/running part i can do at home.if your only going to be working out at the gym the elliptical will give you your biggest burn for the time |

| Use both! I would do the elliptical one day and the treadmill the next. The important thing is to add incline or resistance! Don't just get on and walk at a comfortable pace, you have to work hard! For everyone, "working hard" is different. Do what is hard for you, if that's walking at a slower speed or smaller incline then that's okay, just make sure you change your speed or incline or basic routine every month or so. You need to challenge your body to avoid a plateau. |
