I want to eat 500-600 calories a day and take supplements (vitamins, minerals, blah blah blah) for an experiment I'm doing but the only problem is "starvation mode". I mean if I get all the nutrients I need will I go into stavation mode? I plan to exercise to keep my metabolism stable and eat protein (for my muscles) and enough carbs for energy (no low carbing, I love oatmeal). Will my body really eat all my muscle and leave the fat? REAL answers please, oh and details

That's not good. You should never go under 1,000 calories. Do some exercise and light weight training. You will lose muscles if you don't eat right. Your body will start using your muscles for nuturients. You want your body to look nice and define. Not just SKINNY. Oatmeal is good for you. It also keeps you full longer. Try branflakes also. It does the trick.

On average, you burn almost twice that (if not more depending on height and weight) by sitting around and watching TV!! If you're exercising too then wow.. that's some real negative calorie intake per day which will make you lose a lot of weight but you'll end up probably losing muscle or gaining weight at first. Your body will probably become used to the amount of calories you consume and start slowly shutting itself down or you'll feel way less energized.Just remember to be safe and eat more! Go with natural foods like fruits and vegetables and seriously you hear it a lot but water helps in sooooo many ways.

Basically yes. Going below 800,even for an experiment, is very dangerous. Your body will effectively start to panic thinking it is going to be starved. So it hides away all the fat it can to keep you alive. That of course only leaves the muscle, meaning you end up weak, thin and looking pretty bad.Your body will eventually eat away at its fat,but it will take quite a while.Even if you do exercise, your metabolism will still go really low. So that means any food you do eat will be stored away as effectively as possibly. Its dangerous and will, in the long run, end up putting more weight on you than you had before. If this really is for an experiment, i would suggest you seriously considering whether its really worth it. If its for you to loose weight, then don't do it. Go down to 800 calories minimum. Eat healthy and exercise.Good luck.

the reason why your body goes into starvation mode when you consume less than 1200 calories a day is because it takes that whole 1200 calories to do nothing but fuel your respiration, heart beat, cellular functions, organ functions ect. this doesn't include moving around or extra exercise at all. so if your body doesn't have enough calories to preform the basic functions to keep you alive its always going to go into starvation mode to keep you alive as long as it can. choose a caloric value between 1400-1800 for weight loss results...every body is different so it will take a little playing around with to find the number thats most conducive to weight loss for you. vitamins and minerals DO NOT supply you with caloric energy so they will do nothing against starvation mode. you're body really will eat up precious muscle tissue as well as fat stores (although it uses fat stores much more slowly so this is why its the last to go when in starvation mode). i say PRECIOUS muscle tissue because the more of it you have the more fat/calories you burn even when your at rest! you always want to protect and build your muscle tissue...especially as you get older because around your mid 20's-early 30's muscle tissue starts naturally abating and fat tissue replaces it.
