Im a junior in college looking to drop a few pounds. In high school I was very active and slim, but once I started college working out kind of took the back burner. I have no trouble coming up with ways to work out, but getting motivated and actually going to the pool and gym always falls through. I've even tried getting together with a few friends and working out, but that only lasts for about a week or two. I need help! I have a treadmill in my apartment, but it seems so boring just walking or running in place...any ideas on how to spruce that up??

Listen to the radio or mp3 player with some up beat music. Heck, you could even throw in some dance moves to your workout!

Look in the mirror and think what you could look like.

I have the same problem, but have come up with a few solutions! Probably the best thing I do is I tell myself I only have to exercise for 30 minutes--I can really do ANYTHING for only 30 minutes...that is like nothing! Most of the time once I get started, I am good to go for 45+ minutes, but if I want to be done after 30, then I let myself.Another thing is I too, own a treadmill....I put a TV in front of mine and I put on a good TV show while I run. It's a lot more entertaining to me than listening to music...it makes the time pass.

Pick a couple of TV shows and get yourself hooked, but only allow yourself to watch TV if you're on the treadmill. You'll be so interested in the TV show you'll lose track of the time you spend exercising.

Lots of ideas!!#1 - Go find yourself an absolutely sexy outfit that is about 2 sizes too small. Now you'll have to plan where you'll go when you finally wear it!#2 - Set yourself a realistic target weight & date. Once you have your destination in mind, making the plan is easier... Then mark down on a calendar what your weight loss goals are for each week (max 2 - 3 lbs/week is a healthy change and should not cause any undue problems). Then make a book and write in it how you will achieve that loss (make sure to give yourself off days on weekends where the diet can be stretched a bit!)#3 - Make exercise fun!! Take a cardio dance class, or martial arts (if you are into that), or pick a fun sport. Boredom will kill your desire to work out faster than anything...#4 - Put your treadmill in the best viewing position for your television. Find your fav tv show, and walk the treadmill while watching! You'll never notice you were working out (as long as you are not killing yourself on the treads...)#5 - Get yourself a pedometer. Keep track of how much and how far you walk. Try to walk more to the grocery store, to your friend's place or to where you need to get to (ie: get off 3 - 4 stops early on bus ride and walk rest of distance??) #6 - Try advertising for a running partner at health food stores or the gym... Running is always easier and more interesting with a buddy to talk with.#7 - Use a portable mp3 player while working out. Having your own selection of motivating music helps a lot to block out the sounds and feelings that make exercise boooooring!

My trick to sticking to my routines (altho I'm a bit the opposite - need to cut back on exercising) is to write out little cards with workout plans on them that add up to a certain amount of minutes - I stick the cards in a hat and I pull one out each day. It's so much fun because you never know what your workout is going to be! Also helps you know how much exercise you're doing so that you don't slack off or go too overboard. Plus, at the bottom of each card I write something fun that I am going to do that day, like play with my puppy when I finish exercising, or play guitar, meet up with a friend, see a movie etc. Also, make a few cds or ipod playlists so that you're entertained while you're exercising (just make sure you're concentrating more on technique and your exercise than on the music). You should also grab yourself some nice exercise gear (doesn't have to be expensive - bonds are reasonably priced and really funky) - that way you'll feel great while you're exercising!Try to keep motivated by keeping things interesting - do a different workout every day (so make sure the exercise cards have heaps of different workouts on them), and try to eat something different every day! Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SmileSmileSmile
