| Me too... that's why I searched for and found a very handy calorie calculator for walking and jogging at different speeds and different gradients. I put together a handy webpage with the calculator and other useful info on it. Check it out and give me some feedback: http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/Calories_Burned.html |

| if you start worrying about how many calorie you burn then how many calorie you consume, you will end up with all sort of tension so be normal and act normal. The GorillaA man and his wife were spending the day at the zoo.She was wearing a loose fitting, pink dress, sleeveless with straps. He was wearing his usual jeans and T-shirt.As they walked through the ape exhibit, they passed in front of a large, silverback gorilla.Noticing the wife, the gorilla went crazy. He jumped on the bars, and holding on with one hand and 2 feet he grunted and pounded his chest with his free hand.He was obviously excited at the pretty lady in the pink dress. The husband, noticing the excitement, thought this was funny. He suggested that his wife tease the poor fellow some more by puckering her lips and wiggling her bottom. She played along and the gorilla got even more excited, making noises that would wake the dead. She got into the spirit of things and started jumping up and down and teasing the ape without any more prompting. This drove the gorilla absolutely crazy, and he started doing flips. Then the husband grabbed his wife, ripped open the door to the cage, pushed her in with the gorilla and slammed the cage door shut. "Now, tell him, you have a headache." |

| Dang Mr. Peachy -- You've got me sweating bullets pondering this question. The bottom-line for equivalent calories needed to maintain life is your "basal metabolism". Without doing a thing -- your body requires a certain amount of calories every day. I tend to think that the "basal metaolism" of someone with diabetes is slightly lower because their metabolism is already slightly "off" from elevated blood sugar. Use the variables of age, sex, height and weight to determine your basal metabolism (as seen on this site): http://health.discovery.com/tools/calculators/basal/basal.html***NOTE: activity increases basal metabolism***The above aforementioned is why Mr. Peachy's page is really helpful in determining the amount of calories burned in different exercises: http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/Calories_Burned.htmlHow does this apply your "basal metabolism" requirements and your average blood sugar (HbA1c)?If your average blood sugar is about 200 mg/dL. You have an A1c of about 8.If your basal metabolism is approximately 2,000 calories per day -- it may an interesting equation to apply a 25% reduction to that caloric intake to see if it would result in a 25% reduction in blood sugar / HbA1c.Instead of 2,000 calories - consume 1,500. Instead of an average blood sugar of 200 mg/dL -- perhaps the average blood sugar will be 150. Furthermore, this may result in an increase of insulin sensitivity followed by a reduction in diabetes medications. Yay!!Yes, it all began with an innocent question - and somehow my brain just went the proverbial extra mile. Hate me or love me -- isn't it obvious I spend too much time in front of my laptop?
