I have a very odd body, if you looked at me from my ribs up, I look like i should be super skinny and thin, but i feel like all my fat goes to my tummy and thighs. I tryed the south beach diet, and it just got too hard after 2 weeks. I can't go without carbs. My dream goal would be achieving this weight loss in 6 weeks. I know its not "healthy" to lose more than 2 lbs a week, but i know a lot of this weight is just coming on from the wrong foods and little excercise. What would you suggest is a good calorie intake a day for me? What about breakfast, lunch, dinner? Do you really lose a lot of weight if you drink a lot of water? Is cardio better to lose weight, or strength training and lifting? I want to be able to throw OUT my scale for my new years resolution! not start dreading it more and more! =)

The laws of physics (thermodynamics) dictate that there is only one way to lose weight: OVER TIME, YOU MUST BURN MORE CALORIES THAN YOU EAT. This is an inescapable Law of Nature. The basic principles of weight loss are really very simple: • More calories burned than eaten = weight loss• Fewer calories eaten than burned = weight loss Obviously, TO BURN MORE CALORIES YOU MUST EXERCISE MORE. Start slowly if you haven’t been exercising regularly, being careful to avoid injury, and build up in duration and intensity. The important things are to choose exercises that you enjoy, do them frequently (daily, if possible), and raise your heart rate significantly. And by the way, exercising as a part of your weight-loss regimen yields the added benefits of improved cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and mental health as well.TO TAKE FEWER CALORIES ON BOARD YOU MUST EAT LESS. This is obvious, and it sure can be difficult, but there’s often no way around it. Develop a balanced diet of healthy foods and eat in moderation. It can be helpful to calculate the calories you consume in a day (food labels and books of caloric values make this easy) so that you know your daily caloric intake and can calibrate your daily exercise accordingly. There is some partial good news about foods: solely in terms of weight loss it’s not WHAT you eat, but HOW MANY CALORIES YOU EAT that counts. You can go on a chocolate cake diet and enjoy eating nothing but chocolate cake to the tune of 3,000 calories per day, but if you burn 3,500 calories per day exercising, you will unfailingly lose weight. Obviously, in terms of your health, this would be a bad idea; it’s important to eat a balanced diet of healthy foods. But you get the picture. You needn’t deprive yourself of things you enjoy eating, but you must enjoy them in moderation. There are no magic potions or silver bullets. Most “diets” aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. Research shows that most people who “diet” to lose weight will sooner or later pile the weight right back on. This is because maintaining a healthy weight can’t be done by “dieting, but requires permanent changes in lifestyle to include both a healthy diet and regular, strenuous exercise. So eat whatever foods you want within the broad boundaries of a healthy diet – just don’t consume more calories than you burn – and get lots of the kinds of exercises that raise your heart rate. There is a great deal of information available on the web about exercise and nutrition. Be informed! Do a web-search on “nutrition” or “calories” or “weight loss” or “exercise” and explore. Ignore sites that are merely sales pitches for diets or putative magic bullets. Now the fun part: come back and read this again after you get a bunch of postings (and you surely will). Evaluate them in light of the science here. You’ll discover that there are many scientific illiterates out there who don’t understand the science of weight control but nevertheless profess to have sure-fire methods for weight loss. NONE OF THEIR METHODS EMPOWERS YOU TO VIOLATE THE LAWS OF THERMODYNAMICS. Caveat emptor!

A diet is not the answer because it is not a long term solution. The only long term solution is to burn more calories than you take in. Exercise + eating healthy food = Happy You!That sounds really cheesy but it's true.
