I started back exercising so I can become healthier and lose weight. I've noticed since I started exercising I've GAINED weight. Why? I walk a mile in place for 17 min and dance to 2-3 videos non stop along with crushes everyday for the past week. Why am I gaining weight? And are my exercises helping/hurting me as far being fit? It's discouraging and I want to loss weight before the middle of December. What should I do?I am also NOT pregnant or on any meds.....

Um, well it may be that you're pregnant. If not, it could be muscle, since muscle adds weight.

Try to walk faster or start to jog, make sure you drink a lot of water not soda. And eat healthy, if you stay on a good workout routine, you will not gain weight.

Hi, congrats on your exercise program. Exercise builds muscles which are denser than fat, therefore will weigh more than fat. Also, exercise will leave fine tears in the muscles which will cause water retention. You need this so that the muscles will heal. Now, what the problem is isn't the lack of weightloss. You no doubt, lost fat in the process. The problem is the scale. Don't use it to gage your progress unless you understand that you will become heavier according to the scale. BUT, according to the measuring tape, you are smaller. You are losing inches which is important . The numbers on the scale don't really tell you the full story. So don't let it stress you out. Soon people will ask comment on your weightloss and they will ask how much you've lost. You can eaither say how much it looks like you lost or you can say that you lost 4 dress sizes. The scale may not give you the information that you want but now you know why. Now, knowing that, if you take a few days off from your exercise regimne, you may be a little lighter according to the scale after ridding the body of the excess water and the muscles having a healing period. But don't dismiss the concept of good healthy exercise. Get right back into the process after you have a few days off.. http://exercise.about.com/od/weightloss/f/gainingweight.htm
