Keep where you can be seen. Don't talk to single people. If you feel uncomfortable (following footsteps etc) cross over the road or turn around and walk back the same way). Wear light coloured or reflective clothing. Let someone know where you are and when you should be returning.

My sister uses bars and waits in the evening rather than walking the streets. She says it's a much more comfortable away to pick up johns. Why is this in diet and fitness? She adds "always get the cash up front".

I walk at night, but I take the neighbours 2 alsatians and my Staffie with me!I'd recommend you take some sort of personal attack alarm, on eBay you can find a decent one for under £5. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/_W0QQ_nkwZpersonalQ20attackQ20alarmQQ_arm rsZ1QQ_fromZR40QQ_mdoZI must admit, I do have one on my keys - just in case.You could try walking in the morning, the air is usually fresher and there is more of a breeze which I like.You sound pretty clued up on safety, the only thing I'd suggest is letting someone know you are going and telling them when you should return, take a mobile with you. Don't go through any wood/forest type areas alone - no matter how safe your neighbourhood is.Have fun + stay safe.
