| I was wondering. I walk a mile each day. I can't really run because I have to take my 7 month old and his stroller with me. But is walking as good for you as running. Any other ideas how to get in shape after having a baby would be appriciated! Thanks! |

| Although you are burning less calories per hour than when you are jogging any sort of physical activity will promote good health.If you are walking with a stroller you will actually be burning more calories than just plain walking so keep it up.try to make the pace brisk though to elevate your heart rate as this will be far more beneficial. |

| You could try to find a jogging stroller. These are strollers that are specificcaly designed to be pushed while running, jogging, or walking briskly. The most important thing is to do what you feel up to and what you enjoy. Yes, jogging will burn more calories per time than walking, but you will burn about the same per mile. And as the other answerer said, pushing the stroller will make the intensity that much more, and the calorie burn will be more as well. You burn about 100 calories per mile, though that varies a lot depending on your weight, incline or not, stroller or not, wind resistance or not. As far as getting in shape goes, find healthy foods that you enjoy and are convenient. Whole Fruit and Veggies are great, but so are any whole plant foods, including whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds and so on. Try lean meat and low fat or fat free dairy as well. Portion control is key, as any extra calories will lead to weight gain. Add in whatever extra physical activity that you like to do, whether it is taking long walks with your kid, jumping rope, gardening, biking, hopping up and own or whatever. There are tons of easy exercises, like pushups and crunches, that can be done right at home. Treat yourself to completely unhealthy foods once in a while, just don't do it too often. |
