I'm 16 and trying to loose weight. My dad has just bought a family bike and it looks like i'm the only one who is going to be using it. I want to tone up on my legs and arms, will cycling everyday do anything if i use the hardest gear (or even if i don't i'll cycle for about 5 hours a day)and how long do you think it will take for me to see the results? Where will it tone?x

It will definately help if you do it daily! Go for it, as you're 16 I'd say it would be easier for you to tone up than anyone else as you're still young. But you will need to watch what you eat as there no point exercising to just replace it when you get home with the same rubbish! As for how soon you will see the results, i couldn't say. Probably a month?? But that is a guess! Good luck

i do about 60 miles a week to work and back on mine. its a great way to stay fit plus its nicer than being couped up in a gym full of narcisstic (spelt correct?!) prats who are willing to pay huge sums of money every month? i also recommend that you buy a pump that you can fit to your frame and a saddle bag with a spare innertube or puncture kit which will speed up your repair time. if you're by a busy road or out in crappy weather you don't want to be still for to long. dont worry about using the hardest gear cos you'll only wear yourself out quicker. just get on and enjoy the freedom! also you don't have to wear that silly lycra (god it looks awful!) lol

Cycling is great to get fit it will tone your muscles specifically in the legs. It will increase your muscular endurance in your legs massively too.
