| Hey, I'm new to cycling and I just got a new Trek. But I've noticed that the chain makes more noise than I had anticipated and shifting on the back gears is kind of rough. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I figured I must not be doing something right while shifting, because when I do and the chain finally latches onto the next gear my leg shoots the pedal forward and stops suddenly - which is very sudden and sort of painful lol.Any help/advice would be great, thanks! |

| My guess would be that your shifters need an adjustment. Depending on how long you have had it. Most bike shops do a 30 day checkup to make sure the initial stretch of the cable gets adjusted. There is a fine tune adjuster where the cable connects to the shifter, turn it and see if that helps, go about a half turn. If it gets worse turn it the other direction.Best bet is to go to the shop and have them check it while you watch. That way you can see what they do and learn more about your bike while your there. Also make sure you are shifting while it is easy to turn the crank. If you wait too long the shifting will be rough and hard on the gears. Also if it is a defective part they can tell and replace it with a new one. |

| Bike needs a tune-up. Take it to the shop. Tune up is free on new bikes. |
